Oman- Sohar Port and Freezone supports families

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Sohar Port and Freezone is continuing its commitment to supporting the local community through the distribution of hundreds of vouchers for families in need as part of the company's Ramadan celebrations.

The first of the 375 vouchers were presented to families by  H E Sheikh Said bin Humaid al Harthy Wali of Liwa along with Sohar Port CEO Andre Toet. A total of 375 vouchers will be hand delivered to local homes.

Sohar Port and Freezone also donated vouchers to families in need last year. Speaking on the success of the month-long aid campaign Toet said 'Ramadan is an extremely special time for charitable giving in Islam. It is also a time for understanding and compassion. Helping those in need is closely aligned with our commitment here at Sohar Port and Freezone to creating a responsible and sustainable business which supports the local community.'

He added 'Since moving to Oman and experiencing the great culture of this country I cannot help but admire the compassion and generosity that people demonstrate during this holy month. I am incredibly proud that we are doing our bit and giving something back to the community during this time so that everyone can join in the celebrations.'

Families were selected from the Sohar and Liwa areas based on the household income. The final selection was made by the wali's office in coordination with Social Development North Batinah Directorate. With an average of seven people per household in the area the campaign will reach over two and a half thousand individuals.

With a population of just 3.5mn people Oman was regarded as the most-improved country in the last 40 years back in 2010 – ahead of China Nepal Indonesia and neighbouring Saudi Arabia. As an integral part of plans to diversify the economy and create sustainable employment Sohar has brought 1000 per cent growth to the region in recent years as well as many skilled job opportunities.
