US auto sales keep steady pace in June
(MENAFN) Industry data showed that US auto sales maintained a steady pace of growth in June and consumers were ready to spend money on more expensive models and upgrades, AFP reported.
GM forecast that the industry sales pace would hit 17.3 million vehicles in June. That would be down from the 17.9 million pace set in May but would still be the strongest June since 2005.
"We just wrapped up the US auto industry's best six months in a decade, driven by strong demand for pickups and crossovers," head of sales at General Motors said in a statement.
GM reported June sales fell 3 percent from a year ago to 259,353, largely as a result of a drop in fleet sales to rental car companies. Sales for the first six months of the year were up 3 percent at 1.5 million vehicles.
Meanwhile, rival Ford said its sales grew two percent to 225,647 vehicles last month and were up two percent at 1.3 million vehicles for the first half of the current year.
