Another world's first from Dubai: paper

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) A UAE paper has said that Dubai has a penchant for breaking world records and has hit the Number One slot in varied fields.

"The Emirate's latest plans to build the world's first fully functional 3D printed office building is another impressive move that will surely establish the UAE's position as the global centre of technology in architecture, construction and design," said The Gulf Today in an editorial on Thursday.

The idea comes in line with the country's commendable National Innovation Strategy and the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and is the first major initiative of the Museum of the Future," launched earlier this year by Sheikh Mohammed.

There are huge advantages for the country and the people from the project. Experts estimate that 3D printing technology can reduce the production time of buildings by 50 to 70 percent, reduce labour costs by 50 to 80 percent, and can save between 30 and 60 percent of construction waste.

"In turn, these savings translate to enhanced productivity, higher economic return and increased sustainability," added the daily.

Interestingly, the "Office" will be approximately 2,000 square feet in size and will be printed layer-by-layer using a 20-foot tall 3D printer, then assembled on site in Dubai in just a few weeks.

All interior furniture, detailing, and structural components will also be built using 3D printing technology, combining a mixture of Special Reinforced Concrete, Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum and Fiber Reinforced Plastic.

This combination will make it the most advanced 3D printed structure ever built at this scale and the first to be put into actual use.

The UAE is in news for all good reasons. For example, theme parks in Dubai are now set to generate close to $5 billion by 2020 as the country aims to welcome close to 25 million tourists during that phase, according to organisers of Dubai Entertainment, Amusement and Leisure show, the largest platform for the theme parks and amusement industry in the Middle East and Africa region.

Even as preparations for the much-talked about Expo 2020 go on fast track, millions of tourists are set to flock theme parks in Dubai that are slated to open by the end of 2016.

"The goal of the 3D office project is to increase the happiness and wellbeing of residents and to pioneer new solutions for the world. With such a noble aim, the project is sure to shine and come out as a perfect model for others to follow," concluded the Sharjah-based daily.
