BBQ Grill Mat Provider Grape Stuff Hosts Contest To Promote BBQ Safety!

(MENAFNEditorial) A   is set to help raise awareness for BBQ safety this Independence Day.  Most people are familiar with all the warnings against and reports about accidents that occur with fireworks this time of year.  Grape Stuff's mission this year is to raise awareness of a much lesser known safety hazard that according to statistics 8200 people fall victim to each year: BBQ accidents.

According to the National Fire Protection Association each year an average of 8800 home fires are caused by grilling and July is the peak month for grill fires.  Between 2005 and 2009 in the U.S. Fire Departments responded to over 8000 structure and outside fires per year involving grills that caused an average of $75 million in property damage.  In 2012 nearly 17000 people were hospitalized because of injuries involving grills.  16% of grill fires were home structure fires that resulted from something being too close to the grill.  Leaks and breaks were factors in one of six reported grill fires with gas grills contributing a higher number of home fires overall than their charcoal counterparts.

Grape Stuff.net co-founder JoJo Tabares stated "We want to make sure families are able to spend quality time together without having to deal with the tragedy that a BBQ accident can inflict."
