Hyderabad — The main accused in the sensational cash-for-vote scam and Telugu Desam Party legislator A Revanth Reddy was on Tuesday granted conditional bail by the high court in Hyderabad.

The court which has jurisdiction over both the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh also granted bail to the other two accused in the case — Sebastian and Uday Kumar Simha. They were arrested by the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths on May 31 while offering bribe to a nominated legislator in the Telangana Assembly Elvis Stephenson to vote in favour of the TDP candidate in the elections to the Legislative Council.

While granting bail the court asked the accused to submit bond sureties of Rs500000 each and deposit their passports before the court. The court also asked Revanth Reddy who is deputy floor leader of his party in Telangana Assembly to stay put in his constituency Kodangal in Mahabubnagar district.

The trio were caught red-handed while offering an advance of Rs 5 million as part of an alleged Rs50 million deal to the nominated MLA. Based on a complaint by Stephenson the ACB had laid a trap and nabbed the TDP MLA and his associates. The video recording of the meeting was submitted to the court. The scam has caused severe embarrassment to the ruling TDP in AP. What deepened the crisis further was the surfacing of an audio tape purportedly containing Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s conversation with Stephenson and promising him that all “commitments would be honoured.”

The ACB is reportedly planning to issue a notice to Naidu asking him to appear for a voice test to establish the veracity of the audio tape. —
