Saudi- Revitalize OIC

(MENAFN- Arab News) We fully support the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in whatever steps it takes or plans to take to address various issues facing Muslims in China and elsewhere. The OIC according to June 28 report published in Arab News has expressed its concern over the situation of Muslims in China. It is a very nice gesture. But what is next? Is it going to take any concrete step to address the situation? Will it mobilize Muslim countries to raise such issues with countries where Muslims are being persecuted? If that is the plan than the OIC is justified in issuing statements of condemnation otherwise such statements are of no importance. Every sane person living on the face of the earth would condemn such mindless actions but when it comes to an organization like the OIC we expect much more.

There is a great need to redefine the role of the OIC. Why don't all the Muslim countries walk out of the United Nations and build the OIC as a parallel organization representing the entire Muslim world. One thing is for sure that the UN cannot resolve the conflicts flaring up in the Muslim world. OIC however due to obvious reasons is in a much better position to tackle internal and external issues.

We have no doubts about the sincerity of OIC's claims but it is time to take action. The world has started taking us non-seriously. Perhaps that is why many countries despite having strong trade ties with the Muslim world don't think twice before persecuting their respective Muslim populations.

It is a serious issue and needs immediate attention. We should act before it's too late. This inaction might result in the radicalization of the persecuted people and they might fall prey to the deviant ideology which is far removed from the true teachings of Islam. S.H. Moulana Riyadh
