Israel interrogates former Tunisian Pres. on board Marianne flotilla

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Israeli authorities last night interrogated former Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki after he was arrested on board the Gaza-bound Marianne flotilla which was attacked by Israel at dawn Monday.

The Swedish boat "Marianne," a part of a four-boat flotilla which tried to break Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip, was towed into the Ashdod port on Monday night by the Israeli Navy after being taken over by commandos from the Shayetet 13 special forces unit in the very early hours of the day.

Among the activists aboard the "Marianne" was Basel Ghattas, the Arab member in the Israeli Knesset.

In Beirut, Undersecretary of the United Nations Secretary General and Executive Secretary of the ESCWA Rima Khalaf has called for the immediate release of Marzouki and his colleagues.

In a statement, she called on Israel not to hinder the activists while on their way to Gaza.
