Ministry keen to revive Qatar's cultural heritage

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) HE the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kuwari has underlined that Qatar aims to protect its cultural heritage and maintain the social heritage as an integral part of its development efforts.

In a press statement on the sidelines of a Ramadan event on Qatar's old traditions during the holy month, held by the Ministry's Heritage Department on Sunday night, Dr al-Kuwari stressed that the Ministry is keen to revive the cultural heritage and social values of the Qatari society, especially those that are related to the holy month of Ramadan.

The Minister of Culture added that Ramadan has its special characteristics; it is not only a month of worship, but also a month of special social traditions during which people meet their relatives, friends and neighbours. Ramadan is characterised by old and special traditions when there was no modern technology; it was an opportunity to strengthen social bonds.

"Qatar National Vision works on the development of our society while maintaining our identity and traditions at the same time", the Minister stressed.

Responding to a question on the current absence of Ministry's activities at the Cultural Village, al-Kuwari said that the activities stopped at the Cultural Village due to the development of the Corniche.

The Culure Ministry is communicating with the Ministry of Municipality to provide another place for cultural activities, and there is an agreement to allocate Dahl Al Hamam Park in North Khalifa City to host the heritage events.

The park has a large space and a theatre for special activities and will soon witness many of the Ministry's activities.

Earlier on Sunday, the Minister opened an exhibition of photographs that illustrates different aspects of reviving old traditions of Ramadan in mosques and neighbourhoods.
