S. Korea, US Launch Joint Logistics Drill on West Coast

(MENAFN- QNA) South Korea and the United States have launched a joint logistics drill off the coast of Anmyeon Island in the Yellow Sea.

The Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command said Monday that about 17-hundred soldiers, including 800 South Koreans, are participating in the Combined Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore Exercise, which will run through July 9, according to Korea's (KBS WORLD) website.

The joint exercise is designed to bolster the allies' ability to transport combat supplies and troops without a fixed port facility.

A CFC official said that the joint exercise is the second of its kind after the drill in Pohang in 2014, but is the first to be conducted on the west coast.

The official said that this year's exercise will train the service members on how to set up a portable pier in muddy tidal flats on the west coast known for its strong tides.
