Oman- Crew rescued from sinking vessel off South Sharqiyah

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The ROP Coast Guard in South Sharqiyah recently rescued a ten-member crew from a sinking wooden boat eight nautical miles from Omani shores.

The boat MV Jay Swree Sagar left Dubai's shore in the early morning of May 5 2015 carrying general cargo to Somalia a press release said.

The Coast Guard received a distress call from the captain of the boat conveying that it had broken down and was sinking.

Due to adverse weather conditions the boat developed hole in its hull and was taking in water. A Coast Guard vessel moved to the spot and rescued all ten members of the crew including the captain according to the press release.

Oman LNG's support was called upon by ROP and the OLNG marine department immediately instructed one of their chartered tug boats OLNG Masirah to proceed at full speed  to the stricken vessel.

Whilst way to the scene OLNG Masirah was stopped by the Coast Guard and requested to take onboard four of the rescued crew including the boat's captain.

Although the rescue team could not manage to tow the stricken boat to safe land the condition of all those rescued was reported to be good.
