Oman's population crosses 4.18mn


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman's total population stood at 4185914 till May-end this year registering a 0.2 per cent growth rate compared to April. 

Omanis numbered at 2338769 while there were 1847145 expats as per the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

A majority of the sultanate's population resides in Muscat governorate - 1288330 a 0.4 per cent rise from April.

Muscat also remains the only governorate where expats outnumber Omanis. Till May this year there were 802024 expats compared to 486306 Omanis in the governorate. North Batinah was the second governorate with the most population – 681333 - logging a growth rate of 0.2 per cent from April. Till May end the governorate has 461859 Omanis and 219474 expatriates.

Buraimi Dakhliyah South Sharqiyah North Sharqiyah and Dhahirah also recorded a population growth of 0.2 per cent. Buraimi's population reached 102911 (51407 Omanis and 51504 expats). Dakhliyah's population was 416332 including 321511 Omanis and 94821 expatriates. In South Sharqiyah NCSI recorded a population of 275524 including 187935 Omanis and 87589 expatriates. North Sharqiyah's population stood at 249716 (162644 Omanis and 87072 expats).

There was a 0.3 per cent increase in South Batinah's population taking it to 375484 which included 280102 Omanis. Dhofar registered a 0.1 per cent increase in population. In May-end it stood at 386870 (196042 Omanis and 190828 expats). Al Wusta and Musandam saw population number fall 0.3 per cent and 0.1 per cent respectively. Al Wusta's population was 41310 including 22754 Omanis and 18556 expats. Musandam's population stood at 40849 – 26164 Omanis and 14685 expats.<
