Japan stocks lower at close of trade Nikkei 225 down 2.88%


(MENAFN- FxPro) Japan stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Transportation Equipment and Finance&Investment sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 2.88%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were The Kansai Electric Power Co. (TOKYO:9503), which fell 0.70% or 9.5 points to trade at 1349.5 at the close. Meanwhile, Taisei Corp. (TOKYO:1801) fell 0.71% or 5.0 points to end at 703.0 and Nichirei Corp. (TOKYO:2871) was down 0.95% or 8.0 points to 834.0 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Takashimaya Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:8233), which fell 5.59% or 66.0 points to trade at 1114.0 at the close. Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:5214) declined 5.27% or 34.0 points to end at 611.0 and Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:5202) was down 5.11% or 7.0 points to 130.0.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1821 to 61.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 28.52% to 23.75 a new 3-months high.

Crude oil for August delivery was down 1.48% or 0.89 to $58.74 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 1.24% or 0.79 to hit $62.48 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.64% or 7.50 to trade at $1180.70 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.82% to 122.84, while EUR/JPY fell 1.54% to 136.22.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.32% at 95.91.
