Thailand's exports down 5.01 percent in May


(MENAFN) According to Thailand's Ministry of Commerce, the country's exports dropped for the fifth straight month in May to reach USD18.4 billion, down 5.01 percent on-year, Xinhua reported.

In the January-May period, the country's export revenue amounted to USD88.694 billion, a decline of 4.2 percent from the same period a year earlier, director of the ministry's Office of Trade Policy and Strategy said.

Furthermore, the country's imports plunged by 19.97 percent last month to hit USD16 billion, while the figure for the first-quarter period fell by 9.39 percent to USD85.37 billion, according to the ministry.

Meanwhile, the commerce ministry has decided to maintain the export growth target for 2015 at 1.2 percent, as it was confident that the second half of this year would see better performance.
