US concerned over ISIL progress in Iraq


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The US is concerned over the progress made by the Islamic State in some Iraqi areas, said Senator Tim Kaine late on Sunday.

According to a statement by the government of the Kurdistan autonomous region, Kaine voiced concern over not having a "plan to eliminate them,' calling for more Sunni participation in operations in order to better face terrorism.

Kaine is in a visit to region north of Iraq Nevertheless, Kaine commended efforts by the government, people and Peshmerga; the military forces of Iraqi Kurdistan in facing ISIL (Islamic State in iraq and the Levant).

Kaine, during the visit, also stressed the need for Baghdad to fulfill all financial obligations towards the region so as to enable it to adequately address burdens of hosting the huge numbers of refugees.

On his part, President of the Iraqi Kurdistan Masoud Barzani called on the international community to exert serious efforts to help UN-affiliated organizations in providing aid to refugees in the region.

Kaine, Democrat from Virginia, is one of the most prominent voices calling for a new authorization to fight ISIL in Iraq.
