(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Red Crescent's (QRC) various Ramadan tents continuously attract thousands of residents for Iftar. Since the start of Ramadan, the main tent in Old Salata receives 3,000 visitors daily while each of the tents in Wakrah, Al Khor and Industrial Area takes 1,000 to 1,500 visitors.
Run by a big team of QRC staff and volunteers, the tents serve hot Iftar meals, dates, water, juices and milk supplied by restaurants. They were chosen in a public tender while ensuring variation of meals and a selection of food to break the fast.
In co-ordination with the Religious Guidance Section, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, educational lectures and religious sermons are delivered every day by notable experts and sheikhs.
Nayef bin Faisal al-Mohannadi, director of QRC Administrative Affairs and Human Resources Department, said the main tent received "more-than-expected reaction" since the start of Ramadan.
Al-Mohannadi noted that the tent's steering committee is keen on ensuring the highest level of service, either in terms of the tent equipment, the quality food served, or the good treatment to visitors.
Large water tanks were installed to be used by those who want to perform Maghreb prayer in congregation.
"The tent is open for all visitors especially expats who constitute much of the Qatari society and the most group to deserve services and care," he added. "Both Muslims and non-Muslims are welcomed as we never discriminate among people based on their language, gender, ethnicity, or religion."
"Our mission is to serve humanity and support the vulnerable everywhere," al-Mohannadi stressed.
QRC's Ramadan tent is part of its Ramadan Iftar programme, conducted throughout the holy month both locally and internationally.
In Qatar, QRC distributes Iftar meals and water bottles to hospitals, Grand Mosque, and the Industrial Area. Abroad, it holdings Iftar gatherings and distributes food packages at a total cost of QR6mn in 18 countries (Yemen, Iraqi Kurdistan, Syria, Palestine, Palestinian and Syrian refugee camps in Lebanon, Somalia, Sudan, Central Africa, Niger, Chad, Mauritania, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Nepal, the Philippines, Montenegro, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan.
