Qatar urges Libyan parties to sign final political agreement

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday expressed Qatar's full support to efforts aimed at the successful conclusion of the Libyan dialogue that is being held under the auspices of the United Nations.

In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Arab Affairs Department director Saad bin Ali Hilal al-Mohannadi said that Qatar supported "a political solution to achieve a national reconciliation in Libya through dialogue, resulting in the formation of a government of national unity to end Libya's crisis".

Al-Mohannadi called on all Libyan parties "to sign in the upcoming days the final political agreement submitted by the UN as a good compromise that meets aspirations of the Libyan people and guarantees the unity of Libya".

He expressed Qatar's concern over increasing violence in Libya and beyond its borders, referring to the deterioration of the economic and humanitarian situation.

He said that Qatar would spare no effort in supporting the Libyan people, stressing its full solidarity with Libya and its people.

Delegates from Libya's rival groups met face-to-face in the Moroccan city of Skhirat yesterday for the first time since UN-brokered peace talks were launched in January aimed at forming a unity government.

Participants said delegates had overcome many differences.
