Fires rage in Indonesia as dry season begins

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Firefighters in Indonesia's island of Sumatra were struggling to contain forest fires Sunday after efforts to provoke
rain through cloud seeding failed, dpa reported.

With the dry season now underway, disaster mitigation agency
officials in Riau province had extinguished 69 hectares of forest
fires.

But there are 73 hectares of forest fires that are not yet
extinguished,' said a spokesman for the National Disaster Mitigation
Agency, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho.

Latest satellite images showed that there are more than 200 hotspots
in Sumatra, with more than 70 located in Riau.
