(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Uncertainty reigned in Greece Sunday after its parliament approved Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' bailout
referendum, leaving the country sharply divided on the issue of the
cost of remaining in the euro common currency bloc, dpa reported.
The 300-seat parliament voted 178-120 in favour of a referendum on
the terms of a bailout deal to save the Greek economy from potential
default in a session that ran into the early hours of Sunday - with
two abstentions.
The decision came after eurozone finance ministers rejected Athens'
request to extend its bailout into July.
The European Central Bank (ECB) - one of Greece's three creditors,
alongside the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European
Commission - is expected to hold talks Sunday on whether to continue
providing a financial lifeline to Greek banks after Tuesday.
