US strongly condemns spate of terror attacks

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) The White House strongly condemned a series of attacks Friday that hit France, Tunisia and Kuwait, killing dozens across multiple continents.

"We stand with these nations as they respond to attacks on their soil today, and we have been in contact with appropriate counterparts in all three countries to offer any necessary support," spokesman Josh Earnest said in a statement. "Terrorism has no place in any society."

At least 37 people died when a gunman unleashed fire on tourists at a popular Tunisian beach before entering an adjacent hotel.

In Kuwait, at least 25 people were killed and more than 200 injured after a suicide bomber detonated an explosive belt inside a Shiite mosque during Friday prayers. Daesh has claimed responsibility for the attack.

And in France, at least one person has been killed and two others injured in an attack on a U.S.-owned industrial gas factory. One of the victims had been decapitated.

"As the president has discussed with his French, Kuwaiti, and Tunisian counterparts in recent weeks, we are resolute and united in our shared effort to fight the scourge of terrorism," Earnest said.

The State Department said that there is "no indication that at a tactical level" Friday's attacks were coordinated.

Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said the attacks "are a reminder of the evolving global terrorist threats".

"In our great country, acts of mass violence will never divert, discourage or frighten us," he said.

"Today President Obama eulogizes the Rev. Clementa Pickney in Charleston. The alleged killer sought to divide us. Instead, his actions appear to have had the opposite effect in South Carolina, where people of different races have come together to denounce the tragedy and mourn those killed," he said in reference to the black state legislator who was murdered last week along with either others, by a white gunman, during a Bible study at the history Emanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston.
