Canadian airline diverted to Saskatoon after bomb threat

SASKATOON — A WestJet flight bound for Edmonton Alberta has landed safely after being diverted to Saskatoon Saskatchewan following a bomb threat.

Police in Saskatoon said Saturday in a news release that its bomb disposal unit responded to John Diefenbaker Airport after a threat was made about an explosive device aboard the plane that had departed from Halifax Nova Scotia.

Police say all the passengers and crew have been safely removed from the plane after it landed.

WestJet spokesman Robert Palmer says there were 147 passengers and six crew members aboard the Boeing 737-800 that was diverted at around 9:30 a.m. CST.

WestJet says they were provided with food and water while police investigated.

Police say they are investigating the incident.
