New Report Available Netherlands Freight Transport Report Q3 2015

(MENAFNEditorial)

During the course of 2015 t here will be a broadly similar level of performance growth across the different f reight modes in the Netherlands . The annual outperformer in grow th terms is poised to be rail freight (3.95%) while road freight brings up the rear with year-on-year (y-o-y) gains of 2.20%. The key factors underpinning these forecasts in 2015 are the facts that the Netherlands ' road and rail networks are well-developed and crossing European borders for business can be conducted quickly and efficiently.

Total trade in real terms is pencilled in to grow by 1.00% in 2015 a figure we see growing over the medium term. Leading the way are imports both this year and over the medium term with Germany and China in first and second place respectively forging ahead in this respect. We also expect to see household consumption in Germany continue to grow from 2015 boosting exports from the Netherlands as a result.

With the Dutch economy entering a cyclical growth upswing consumer spending which has been a drag on growth over the past few years will help drive a well-balanced growth acceleration over the next two years supporting our steady growth forecasts for the road freight sector over both the short- and medium-term. In 2015 this sector is set to grow by 2.20% in terms of tonnage handled to reach 628.44mn tonnes - a figure beaten only by inland waterways in the Netherlands.

In the 2014-15 World Economic Forum's Global Competitiveness Report the Netherlands' rail infrastructure ranked 9th in global terms underlining its key position in European terms for goods transported by rail - the infrastructure placing it highly among regional peers - a fact we see reflected in our healthy and growing forecasts for the rail freight sector. Future developments such as the expansion of the P&O Ferries rail hub at Rotterdam Europoort underpin this growth going forward.

Air freight may not be able to rival road in terms of levels of tonnage...
