Oman's top golfer undergoes knee surgery

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Azaan al Rumhy Oman's top golfer underwent a knee operation on Monday at a Muscat hospital ruling the sultanate's No 1 golfer out of competitive action for six weeks.

The experienced golfer had been facing trouble following a meniscus tear in his right knee since January this year but he had chosen to delay surgery in order not to miss out on the action leading up to the summer.

Azaan who is now recuperating said 'The niggle had been causing problems since last winter. But I couldn't afford a break from action at that stage. The Oman Amateur Open and then the GCC Golf Cup in Kuwait were lined up. I didn't want to miss out on the competitive action and I played.'

The Muscat-based golfer pointed out that he played in those two key tournaments despite battling constant pain. He said 'Of course the knee troubled me throughout the first half of the year. It even affected my play somewhat and had an impact on my results.'

He added 'I decided to undergo surgery now because there is a break on the Oman Golf Committee's (OGC) playing calendar. I will need about six weeks to recover and get back to full swing at what I enjoy doing best.'

Azaan is currently visiting the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex for daily sessions of physiotherapy under Dr Abdul al Kitani.

Mundhir al Barwani the OGC chairman said 'We are keeping an eye on Azaan's recovery.

The surgery went off well. I wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.'
