Qatar- Ministry finalises plans to set up nine livestock farms

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Ministry of Environment (MoE) has adopted a comprehensive plan that will be implemented to develop nine livestock farms in the country, local Arabic dailies have reported.

Abdulaziz Ajlan al-Muraikhi, MoE's head of the organising committee for farms affairs, told reporters that the ministry has maintained co-ordination with the Ministry of Economy and Commerce and the Qatar Development Bank to provide the farms with services such as groceries, eateries, salons and outlets that sell items required for keeping livestock.

There is also a suggestion to create new marketplaces to display and sell livestock and the products of local farms. Another suggestion is to establish a slaughterhouse and veterinary centre in each farm.

Al-Muraikhi said the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning has already been briefed about the land required to create the new livestock farm complexes and to expand the existing facilities.

Recently, over 3,700 farm plots were distributed among Qatari livestock owners at Al Wakrah, Abu Nakhla, Al Khor, Al Shahaniya, Simaisma, Al Shamal and Al Kherib. This initiative has led to an increase in livestock numbers in the country.

Al-Muraikhi said the process of distributing such plots is transparent and fair as it involves fixed regulations and standards of the MoE, which are to be followed strictly. As the number of applicants often surpasses the available farms, priority is given to those who prove that they already have livestock.
