Kerry, Shoukry discuss preparations for strategic dialogue in July

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) US Secretary of State John Kerry made a phone call Monday to his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry to discuss preparations for a strategic dialogue scheduled for 28-29 July, according to an Egyptian Foreign Ministry statement.

The dialogue has been on hold for months as it was first agreed upon in 2013, when interim president Adly Mansour wrote to US President Barack Obama suggesting a strategic dialogue between the two countries. Plans to hold the dialogue in September did not, however, materialise.

The two diplomats also discussed an array of topics including cooperation against terrorism, the Palestinian issue, and the latest meeting of the Arab Ministerial Committee. The Committee's meeting focused on the Movement to End Israeli Occupation of the Palestinian territories, the situation in Libya, the developments in Syria and the results of the recent Syrian opposition conference in Cairo amongst other topics.
