Ramadan reminder of freedoms that bind us together: Obama

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) U.S. President Barak Obama Monday night said, during an Iftar dinner to mark the Muslim holiday of Ramadan in the White House, the United States stands united against threats to its values that promote freedom, equality, freedom of worship and discrimination between its citizens on the basis of appearance or belief.

The president said that Ramadan "is also a reminder of the freedoms that bind us together, including the freedom of religion." He recognized several young dinner guests, including Samantha Elauf, who went to the Supreme Court to defend her right to wear a headscarf, or hijab at her job.

"She was determined to defend the right to wear a hijab - to have the same opportunities as everybody else," Obama said. "She went all the way to the Supreme Court and she won." "It's a time of spiritual renewal and a reminder of one's duty to our fellow man - to serve one another and lift up the less fortunate," Obama added.
