Yemen- Health conditions in Aden "catastrophic" due to Dengue fever - official

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) A senior Yemeni official Tuesday described the situation in Aden Province as "catastrophic," which could have health and environmental consequences due to the rising number of deaths caused by Dengue fever.

Mohammad Marem, chief of staff of President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, made the remarks during a meeting with officials of local authorities in Aden, and representatives of international health and relief organizations working in the coastal city, official SPA news agency reported.

They discussed the deteriorating health and environmental conditions in Aden and surrounding areas, and the international organizations' role to alleviate suffering of the Yemeni people, who were also subjected to attacks by Houthis militias and ex-President Ali Abdullah Saleh's forces, said SPA.

Dengue fever is caused by any one of four related viruses transmitted by mosquitoes.

There are not yet any vaccines to prevent infection with dengue virus and the most effective protective measures are those that avoid mosquito bites. When infected, early recognition and prompt supportive treatment can substantially lower the risk of medical complications and death. (end)
