(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Parliament on Tuesday approved the budget links of 11 State authorities and agencies, as well as the recommendations of the Budget and Final Accounts Committee in this regard. The approved budget links for fiscal 2015/2016 include that of Kuwait Investment Authority, National Assembly, Public Authority for Applied Education and Training, Kuwait Ports Authority, Public Authority for Housing Welfare, Public Institution for Social Security, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, and Public Authority for Youth and Sports.
Also, the budget links of two new agencies € Public Authority for Roads and Land Transportation and the Public Authority for Telecommunications and Information Technology € were approved covering the period from May 8, 2014 to March 30, 2016.
The final accounts of Kuwait Ports Authority, Public Authority for Housing Welfare, National Assembly, and Public Authority for Youth and Sports for fiscal 2013/2014 were approved as well; but the Parliament rejected that of Kuwait Investment Authority, Public Authority for Applied education and Training, Public Institution for Social Security and Kuwait Petroleum Corporation.
Meanwhile, Minister of Finance Anas Khalid Al-Saleh thanked the committee for preparing the report on the budget links. He promised to look into the comments made by MPs during the session; especially those concerning authorities affiliated to the ministry like Kuwait Investment Authority, Public Institution for Social Security and Kuwait Petroleum Corporation. He added the issue regarding the Public Institution for Social Security has been referred to the Public Prosecution, stressing the ministry will hold responsible all those proven to have committed violations. On the other hand, Parliament Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim adjourned the session until Wednesday.
Items in the agenda for Wednesday's session include the second reading of the Domestic Workers and National Commission for Human Rights bills, in addition to the proposed amendment of laws on the diplomatic and consulate system, Environment Public Authority and Public Authority for Telecommunications.
Meanwhile, MP Dr Abdullah Mohammad Al-Turaiji raised some questions to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid Al-Sabah for clarification over issues related to the acquisition of weapons. In a press statement, the lawmaker disclosed he wants the minister to affirm or deny the alleged establishment of a workshop for maintenance of weapons for Special Forces. In case the answer is in the affirmative, he demanded for an explanation whether it was done through tender or direct contract. The answers should be supported with relevant documents for the contract, especially offers from companies and status of the company which won the contract, whether it is licensed or not.
