EU FMs discuss Iran nuclear file with counterpart Zarif

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) EU High Representative Federica Mogherini together with the Foreign ministers of France, Germany and Britain met the Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on sidelines of an EU foreign ministers meeting in Luxembourg Monday afternoon.

Speaking at a press conference, Mogherini said the meeting aimed "to tackle the last issues open before we hopefully finalise nuclear deal with Iran by the end of the month." On his part, German foreign minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier earlier held a bilateral meeting with Zarif.

"We are in front of a decisive period. A period I hope in a few days will reach to a conclusion of the negotiations which has kept the international community engaged and concerned in the last ten years," he told reporters after the meeting adding that they have not reached the goal as yet.

Meanwhile, the EU Foreign Affairs Council in a statement said it amended the EU sanctions against the Syrian regime.

It withdrew a deceased person from the list of those subject to a travel ban and an EU asset freeze over their responsibility for the repression of the civilian population and human rights violations, it said without naming the person.
