Saudi Arabia regret Geneva talks on Yemen ending without agreement

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Saudi cabinet has expressed regret over the end of the Geneva consultations on Yemen without reaching an agreement.

Saudi press agency (SPA) said that the remarks were made by the cabinet during its weekly session headed by Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz, on Monday.

The cabinet also expressed appreciating to efforts by the United Nations, the participating countries and the cooperation of the Yemeni legitimate government, and the pursuit of implementing UN Security Council resolution 2216.

The kingdom also expressed appreciation to positive cooperation of all parties to end the suffering of Yemeni people.

The Saudi cabinet welcomed the final statement of Foreign Ministers of Muslim countries issued at the end of their extraordinary meeting in Jeddah last week, stressing the Kingdom's determination to end suffering of Yemeni people and rejection to any foreign interference in Yemen's internal affairs without the consent of Yemeni legitimate government.

Recently, the Special Envoy of UN Secretary General for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmad confirmed the Geneva consultations between the legitimate government and the Houthi rebels ended without reaching a ceasefire deal.

However, the UN-brokered consultations, aimed at ending the conflict in Yemen, have laid an important foundation for the political process in Yemen, Ahmad said in a press conference following the talks, noting that UN Chief Ban Ki-moon's presence to launch the talks indicates the UN's great interest in the Yemeni issue.

He also affirmed the UN's keenness to help Yemen end its crisis, noting that Yemeni political sides were able to respond to the UN chief's call and come to Geneva despite challenges and difficulties that their country is currently facing.
