UN: Four million people internally displaced in Iraq

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said in a statement Monday that the number of internally displaced Iraqis has reached four million due to the ongoing fight against Daesh across the country.

UNHCR said that eight million Iraqis need aid, including the four million displaced.

Asghar al-Mosawi, deputy minister of the Migration and Displacement Ministry, told Anadolu Agency that "the ministry keeps providing food supplies to the displaced families alongside other international and local relief organizations."

Iraq has plunged into a security vacuum since June 2014 when Daesh stormed the northern city of Mosul and declared what it called a caliphate in parts of Iraq and Syria.
