South African Airways backs out over USD164.4m Emirates deal

(MENAFN) South African Airways (SAA) has backed out over a partnership deal with Emirates Airline, a deal which would have profited the African company more than USD164.4 million, Arabian Business reported.

According to official reports, the deal couldn't have been carried through because negotiations between the two sides have failed. The concluding of the deal was scheduled to take place in France, but the chairwoman of SAA didn't turn up and her CEO was instructed not to sign.

"Emirates and SAA have an existing codeshare and commercial partnership. We are exploring with the SAA team to enhance this cooperation further and open new opportunities for both carriers," an Emirates spokesperson said as media is now waiting for SAA chairwoman to explain her absence.
