MERS patient in Thailand hospital, condition stable


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) A Ministry of Health (MoH) statement has confirmed that the condition of the Omani patient who was tested positive for MERS recently is stable. The patient is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Thailand.

Public health response teams in Oman are monitoring the health of those at his home  as well as of the airline staff and passengers who may have been exposed to the case.

The ministry is in communication with concerned health authorities in Thailand in compliance with international health regulations.

 MoH has assured the public that there is no reason for increased concern over MERS coronavirus infections in the sultanate.

A total of six cases have been registered in Oman so far. The first one was in October 2013. The ministry has called on the public to follow hygiene practices and necessary steps to prevent infection.
