Afghan parliament comes under attack

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Afghan parliament on Monday came under coordinated attack by militants in the capital city Kabul as the attackers detonated a huge car bomb outside the building, before racing into parliament itself, said media reports.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) confirmed a series of explosions near the building of parliament but it neither ascertained nature of the blasts nor casualties in the incident.

A group of suicide bombers attempted to storm the building of Wolesi Jirga or lower house of parliament on Darul Aman.

The security forces have reached the area and the building was provided bolstered security, said MoI spokesman Seddiq Seddiqi.

According to media reports, seven explosions have so far been heard in and around the parliament building.

A general session of Wolesi Jirga was underway when rebels attacked the house, forcing the lawmakers to flee the parliament building.

A number of attackers first climbed to the roof of an under construction building located close to the parliament and then started fire at the parliament building. Afghan police officer, Mohammad Asif told media that gunfire had broken out and that there was no immediate word on casualties.
