KSA- Thousands to train in railway administration


(MENAFN- Arab News) RIYADH: A thousand students will be sent abroad under the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Scholarship Program to pursue higher studies in railway administration so that they can later work for the massive railroad network planned for the Kingdom.
A spokesman at the Saudi Railways Organization (SRO) said here on Sunday that the Ministry of Education and the SRO have signed an agreement to send eligible students on the foreign scholarship program during the next five years in order to specialize in railway services.
Education Minister Azzam Al-Dakhil and SRO President Mohamed Al-Suwaiket signed a partnership agreement to enroll 1000 students for scholarships abroad for the third phase of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Scholarship Program.
'The application process for these scholarships will start online from June 27 through the Ministry of Education portal' the spokesman said.
He added that scholarships in railway studies will cater to railway rolling stock signaling and communication engineering electrical engineering railway operations safety and logistical service engineering and will include high school graduates.
After completing studies and training these new engineers will be deployed for development projects in cargo and passenger lines and similar projects such as the Haramain high speed rail the GCC rail link the North-South rail line the land-bridge project and future railway expansion projects throughout the Kingdom in addition to metro projects in Riyadh Makkah Jeddah Madinah and the Eastern Province.
Earlier commenting on the partnership Al-Dakhil said he was happy to be signing this important agreement with SRO which is an important and vital sector.
'It reflects our joint efforts to educate and train qualified national cadre required in the Kingdom's development process which is the main objective of the King's foreign scholarship program' he said adding: 'I am looking forward to the day when our scholarship students return to the country to take part in nation-building endeavors.'
He further noted that the scholarships will provide qualified Saudi nationals for existing and future jobs associated with the railway projects.
