Egypt, France discuss settling Palestinian cause

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Egypt's President Abdelfatah Al-Sisi met Saturday with France's Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius and discussed with him settling the Palestinian cause.

During the meeting, Al-Sisi welcomed Paris's keenness in taking part in efforts towards reviving Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Alaa Yousef said in a statement.

Al-Sisi also stressed the importance of joint coordination to be able to crystalize a vision approved by all sides to resume the peace process based on clear foundations and in line with the Arab peace initiative in order to reach a comprehensive and permanent settlement, which includes establishing an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Egyptian President also affirmed the importance of consolidating the international community's efforts to provide international guarantees that give the Palestinian people hope, and encourage the Palestinian leadership to move on towards the peace path.

Attaining a comprehensive and just peace would have several positive reflections on the region's security and stability, in addition to boosting cooperation and finding a new positive regional environment, said Al-Sisi.

For his part, Fabius noted that his current visit to Egypt marks the beginning of a tour that also includes Jordan, Israel, and Palestinian lands, expressing his country's desire in pushing the peace process forward and resuming the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations under an international umbrella in order to move on towards settling the Palestinian issue.

The French minister also expressed his country's keenness and interest in coordinating with regional sides active in that regard, particularly Egypt due to its pivotal role in the Palestinian cause, noting that President Francois Hollande is to partake in the opening ceremony of the new Suez Canal on August 6th.

Meanwhile, Al-Sisi stressed the importance of further boosting bilateral relations between Egypt and France, as well as bolstering the two countries' cooperation on various political and economic arenas.

Fabius also praised the progress in French-Egyptian ties at many different levels and in all fields, including military, energy, transportation, education, and culture, affirming his country's determination and aspiration in boosting bilateral relations with Egypt in the next stage.
