Kuwait- Bourse Ends In Red As Liquidity Drops
(MENAFN- Arab Times) ended last week in the red zone. The Price Index closed at 6,237.19 points, down by 0.73% from the week before closing, the Weighted Index decreased by 0.03% after closing at 424.30 points, whereas the KSX-15 Index closed at 1,027.27 points down by 0.27%. Furthermore, last week's average daily turnover decreased by 21.59%, compared to the preceding week, reaching KD 13.33 million, whereas trading volume average was 125.14 million shares, recording a decrease of 46.76%.
The three stock market indicators declined by the end of last week as a result to the selling activity on many listed stocks, especially the leading and operational stocks of different price increases during the previous weeks. The stock market witnessed such performance in light of the selling pressures and the profit collection operations executed on many stocks, headed by the small-cap ones, in addition to the reluctance and hesitation of some traders from purchasing due to the absence of the positive motivators, which negatively affected the daily trading indicators which noticeably declined compared to a week before trading, for both the value and the volume.
Also, the stock market initiated the first session of the week with varied closing to the three indices, as the Price and Weighted indices were able to increase supported by the random purchasing operations and the speculative activity that included many small-cap stocks, whilst the profit collection operations that were executed on some leading stocks pushed KSX-15 index to end the session in the red zone. However on the next session, the indices switched positions, as the Price and Weighted indices declined due to the profit collection operations performed by many traders, while the KSX-15 index was able to increase and compensate a part of its earlier losses as a result to the collection operations that included some heavy stocks.
However in the mid-week session, the Weighted and KSX-15 indices were able to realize some gain at the end of the session, while the Price Index closed with losses affected by the profit collection operations that the small-cap stocks were subject to during the session. In addition, the stock market indicators ended Wednesday's session with mixed performance, whereas the Price Index was able to compensate part of its previous losses by realizing slight gain by the end of the session, supported by the return of the purchasing operations on some idle small-cap stocks; while the Weighted and KSX-15 indices dropped as a result to the profit collection operations that the large-cap stocks were subject to. Moreover, the stock market witnessed during its last session of the week a varied closing for the three indicators, as the Price Index dropped due to the profit collection operations, while the Weighted and KSX-15 indices were able to realize limited gain supported by the purchasing operations witnessed by some leading stocks, especially in the last few moments of the session. Such performance came in light of a noticeable decline in the trading activity, especially the liquidity which dropped to its lowest level in about a year.
Also, the market cap for Kuwait Stock Market reached by the end of last week KD 28.34 billion with a very limited growth of 1.35% compared to its level of a week before, however on the annual level, the listed companies cap recorded a increase of 1.28% of its value at end of year 2014, whereas it reached KD 27.98 billion.
As far as KSE annual performance, the price index ended last week recording 4.57% annual loss compared to its closing in 2014, while the weighted index decreased by 3.32%, and the KSX-15 recorded 3.08% loss.
