'148,850 Passengers Traveled From Kuwait Airport'

(MENAFN- Arab Times) The administration of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has allegedly committed a number of violations, leading to wastage of a huge amount of money from the State budget, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting sources. Sources disclosed the company that signed a contract with the administration for several years to provide technical land services at Kuwait International Airport is said to have been using land owned by the administration without paying rent estimated at KD750,000.

Sources added the administration also prevented the State from earning around KD800 due to its decision to reduce the rental fee for a storage space utilized for a shipping building in favor of an investor. Sources explained this is a violation of the stipulations of the contract since the administration did not ask the Ministry of Finance to specify the rental fee.

Sources went on to say the administration has allocated land areas for infrastructure investors but these plots have been idle for years, resulting in losses of about KD3 million. Sources revealed the DGCA has no regulations on the allocation and usage of land. Meanwhile, operations Director at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation Saleh Al-Fudaghi announced that 148,850 passengers traveled from Kuwait International Airport between June 10 and June 17, reports Al-Al- Qabas daily.

In a statement, Al-Fudaghi added that passengers traveled aboard 1254 flights with four extra flights, and that Istanbul was the favorite destination for the majority of passengers during the period. Al-Fudaghi mentioned that London came second as the favorite destination, followed by Dubai, Munich and Mash'had in third, fourth, and fifth respectively.

The city of Najaf was the sixth favorite destination, and then Beirut and Jeddah followed respectively. He indicated passengers turned to other destinations like Doha, Riyadh, Lahore, Mumbai, Dhaka and Colombo. Al-Fudaghi affirmed the operations department had completed preparations to deal with the huge number of travelers since the beginning of summer and placed a support team on standby to reduce pressure at the counters and to ensure smooth processing of travel procedures.
