Qaraqe Urges U.N. to Intervene to Protect Striking Palestinian Prisoners

(MENAFN- QNA) Head of the Palestinian prisoners' committee, Issa Qaraqe, has called on U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to immediately intervene to save the lives of Palestinian prisoners who are on food strike and whose lives are in danger as Israel, he said, do not care about their health and demands.

In a message for Ban, Qaraqe expressed fear over Israel's possible use of forced feeding against striking prisoners, noting that this would violate rules and provisions of international humanitarian law.

He added that the life of Palestinian prisoner Khader Adnan is in deep risk after 50 days of continuous food strike to protest his administrative detention.

Qaraqe urged the United Nations to protect Palestinian prisoners and work to compel the Israeli occupation's government to respect the U.N. Charter and humanitarian doctrines.
