Boeing, like Airbus, announces over USD 50 bln in Le Bourget business

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) US plane-maker Boeing announced on Thursday that it, too, had more than USD 50 billion in aircraft sales so far in the Le Bourget Air Show, but only USD 18.6 billion were made up of firm orders for 145 aircraft.

A press statement said that total sales by Boeing were at around USD 50.2 billion at the Air Show, a figure that almost equals rival Airbus sales of USD 57 billion announced earlier Thursday.

But again, like Boeing, Airbus has only received USD 16.3 billion in firm orders, slightly lower than the Seattle-based company.

Both manufacturers say they are optimistic that MoU's, Letters of Intent and other options will be transformed into firm orders at a later stage.

Two years ago at Le Bourget, Airbus received firm orders valued at USD 39 billion and Boeing drummed up USD 38.3 billion in new, confirmed business so there is still a long way to go to get close to those figures before the Sunday close of the show.
