Lagarde rules out grace period for Greece

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Christine Lagarde, Managing director of the International Monetary Fund, said Thursday she is ready to examine any new proposals by Greece to resolve its debt crisis if they can deliver results.

"The IMF has an obligations vis-a-vis to its membership of 188 members from Senegal to Sri Lanka to Switzerland to have a programme that is credible to all. But we are always flexible too," she told reporters on arrival for a crucial meeting of Eurozone finance ministers in Luxembourg on Greece.

"So if there are good proposals that are delivering results and tangible then we are going to review them," she said.

However, Lagarde warned that "there will be no period of grace," for Greece.

"I have a term of June 30, if it's not paid by July 1, it's not paid," she added.

Greece's international bailout period ends on June 30 the day when Greece has to repay the IMF 1.7 billion euro.

But Athens does not have the money and needs to unlock the last 7.2-billion-
euro bailout tranche. (end) nk.gb
