Pakistan releases 113 Indian fishermen

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Pakistan on Thursday released 113 Indian fishermen detained in Malir prison in southern Karachi city upon directives of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif as a goodwill gesture on the eve of Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

A senior official of Home Department Sindh province, Dr. Mansoor Wassan in a statement said that Pakistan has released the Indian fishermen as a goodwill gesture and "we hope India will duly reciprocate." The authorities are shifting the Indian fishermen from Karachi to eastern Lahore city where they would be handed over to the Indian authorities. Pakistan has released over 300 Indian fishermen in groups this year.

Pakistan and India often detain each other's fishermen, as violation of the territorial waters is common along the coastline of the Indian state of Gujarat and the Pakistani province of Sindh due to the absence of a physical boundary. (end) sbk.hb
