Turkish Halkbank opens new branch in Macedonia

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) The Turkish bank Halkbank, one of the country's biggest banks and a state-run lender, on Wednesday opened its 33rd branch in the Cair municipality of the capital of Skopje.

The opening ceremony of the branch was attended by the general director of Halkbank in Macedonia, Necdet Palakci, Turkey's Ambassador to Macedonia Omur Solendil, the Mayor of the Municipality of Cair, Izzet Meciti and representatives of Turkish institutions in Macedonia as well as other guests.

Speaking at the ceremony, Palakci recalled that Halkbank has already bought the majority stake in the Serbian Cacanska bank and added that Halkbak is planning to be the most powerful bank in the entire region.

Halkbank bought a 76.76 percent stake in Serbia's local lender, Cacanska Banka AD on May 20, 2015.

The Turkish bank is also the main sponsor of the National Basketball Team of Macedonia.

Halkbank is the second-largest state lender after Ziraat Bank in Turkey with 900 branches and 19,000 employees.

In 2014, the bank's assets were valued at over 150 billion Turkish lira ($60 billion) and its net profit reached 2.2 billion Turkish lira ($0.85 billion).

Nearly half of Halkbank's shares are traded on Turkey's main stock exchange, the Borsa Istanbul.
