ISESCO, Tunisia tackle roots of radicalism, terrorism


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Tunisian Foreign Minister Taieb Baccouche and the Director-General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) Abdulaziz Othman Al-Tuwaijri on Wednesday discussed means to combat and address the root causes of radicalism and terrorism.

In a press statement, the Tunisian Foreign Ministry said that the meeting between Baccouche and Al-Tuwaijri mulled the need to give priority to education and culture, uphold the values of tolerance, moderation and right balance and fully embrace the universal principles.

It added that the meeting was an opportunity to exchange views on the set of challenges faced by the Muslim world, in view of the rise extremism, violence and terrorism.

It also tackled the progress of co-operation between Tunisia and ISESCO and prospects for its development, particularly in light of the events planned by the Organization in Tunisia in 2016.

The three-day visit of ISESCO Director-General, which began on June 15, saw the signing of an action program between the Tunisian government and the organization for the years 2016-2017.
