Qatar- Eastern Industrial Area roads experience 'severe' traffic jams

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Road diversions and closures necessitated by ongoing infrastructure works in the Industrial Area have made commuting, especially on the eastern side, a "nightmarish experience" for many, it is understood.

Many people who work in the sprawling area, as well as those who visit the place regularly, complain that getting around the eastern Industrial Area is becoming increasingly difficult due to massive traffic congestion on roads there.

A major fire that broke out on Street 37 on Monday has further worsened the situation, it is learnt. Even 48 hours later, most traffic diversions put in place in the aftermath of the fire apparently continued to remain in effect and vehicles were caught in serpentine queues along roads in the area, particular those between Street 33 and Street 52, said sources.

Severe traffic congestion could also be found on the over-2km stretch from near Barwa City and the roundabout near the entrance to Street 47 on East Industrial Area Road.

Yesterday, some office-goers also complained that it took them more than
an hour and 45 minutes to go from the Medical Commission signal to the eastern areas in the morning.

Similarly, people from the eastern areas took more than two hours to travel from Street 23 to the Ministry of Interior's fingerprinting facility on Street 15. This is because of a road closure in the area following the fire on Street 37, which reportedly destroyed two warehouses. The closure forced people from places lying to the west of Street 33 to travel long distances before entering East Industrial Area Road near the roundabout at the entrance of Street 47.

Though some changes were effected late in the evening yesterday, the situation continued to be bad in many places, it was understood.
