Altech Chemicals (ASX:ATC) is progressing its goal of becoming one of the world’s leading suppliers of high purity alumina (HPA).

Earlier this month it signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SGL Group as its partner for the supply and installation of the Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) gas generation absorption recovery and scrubbing plants.

The recovery regeneration and concentration of hydrochloric acid are important steps in numerous processes in the company’s HPA plant.

SGL is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of carbon-based products and materials.

Altech has previously appointed key Bankable Feasibility Study partners and key suppliers for its HPA operation.

These are:

- Seatram appointed as Altech's transport and logistics services provider;
- M + W Group appointed as the EPCM partner to facilitate transition from BFS to construction;
- Tialoc Group (formerly Atea) appointed as composites supplier for Altech's Malaysian HPA plant; and
- Castle Group as mining and processing partner for Altech's Meckering aluminous clay operation.

In January the company incorporated a wholly-owned Malaysian subsidiary company following its strategic decision to select Johor Bahru as the preferred location for its proposed HPA processing plant.

It has successfully completed a further series of laboratory pilot plant test work programs which simulated the proposed HPA processing plant as part of its BFS.

This produced a HPA product of higher quality compared to other HPA samples obtained from leading competitors.

Altech has incorporated the successful test work results into the optimisation of its process design.

Earlier this year the company also signed a memorandum of understanding with Dana Shipping and Trading S.A. (Dana) to fund a scoping study to assess the commercial viability of mining and processing bulk kaolin from the company's Meckering kaolin (or aluminous clay) deposit.
