Research Center for Islamic Legislation Concludes 2nd Summer Program
The summer school, held over five days at the Euro Arab Foundation in the Spanish city of Granada, was organized in collaboration with Nura Intercultural and the European Muslim Network.
Through its membership of QFIS in HBKU, which is a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), CILE supports QF's mission to enhance cultural life by renewing contemporary Islamic legal and ethical thought and behavior to address modern-day challenges.
The summer school, attended by 45 graduate students from around the globe, attempted to further discussion on ethics and its role in developing innovative solutions to a variety of contemporary issues, especially those of authority, labor, freedom, and gender.
A series of comprehensive lectures were organized, addressing topics such as the boundaries of the authority of the Prophet; the role of man on earth: between revelation and reason; the relationship between spirituality and ethics; social ethics in the Qur'an; labor rights; religious freedom in the Qur'an; gender equality between reality and myth; the contemporary political challenges: dealing with Power in a global world; and constitutional crisis of Islamic civilization.
The lecturers included CILE Executive Director Dr. Tariq Ramadan, CILE Deputy Director Chauki Lazhar and a group of CILE academics. CILE also organized three public lectures in parallel with the events of the summer school. These lectures focused on the concept of Sharia, the guidelines of critical thinking in Islam, and migration challenges from an Islamic perspective.
