Oman- Sharikati is cornerstone of our success, say young entrepreneurs


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Sulaiman al Mahrooqi who took part in the 2013 Sharikati competition as part of the student company Masaar is today one of the founders of the Bella Luna Productions at the National Business Centre (NBC) in Knowledge Oasis Muscat.

He attributes his success to the Sharikati competition. Mahrooqi said 'The Sharikati competition helped us acquire new skills in management client communications leadership delivering a business pitch business plan development and understanding the target audience.'

A press release stated that Mahrooqi's company provides photography and video production services at conferences exhibitions corporate events and weddings. They were honoured with the incubator award at NBC in January.

Ahmed bin Saleh al Jahdhami CEO Oman Power and Water Procurement Company a member of Nama Group and a board member at Injaz Oman said 'The Sharikati programme is an effective educational initiative that provides students with skills and real life experience. This enriching experience is a realistic reflection of SME development in Oman and students are given the opportunity to continue this experience and take it to another level after the competition.'

Mahrooqi has co-founded the company with Amal al Minji Munthar al Minji and Mohammed al Rawahi of the student company Clickers who also participated in the 2013 contest. The company has worked with various organisations including Oman Oil Company and the Ministry of Education.

Another team Rawand from the Sultan Qaboos University that had participated in the 2013 Sharikati contest is also running a successful business today. An officially-recognised company today Rawand is into the business of creating and selling branded electronic devices such as multi-purpose branded key chains that can be used as micro-USB and a flexible safety device.

Yousuf al Hadhrami CEO Rawand said 'The Sharikati contest was the cornerstone for establishing my company. The competition was not only challenging but also gave us the invaluable experience to create a company.' Over 700 students from 21 colleges and universities across the sultanate will take part in this year's Sharikati competition the release added.
