Qatar- HMC to expand patient experience app service soon

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The service of the Patient Experience App, jointly developed by the Hamad Medical Corporation and the Royal College of London, will be expanded to all HMC hospitals soon.

"The implementation may happen this year itself," Nasser al-Naimi, deputy chief quality officer, patient experience and co-director, Hamad Healthcare Quality Institute, told Gulf Times yesterday.

The Patient Experience App was exhibited under the "Young Innovators Showcase" at the second summit of the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) in February this year.

"The app was piloted at the National Centre for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR) and we have got great response from visitors and patients," al-Naimi explained during an interaction with some of the WISH team members.

The official observed that the app had proved to be quite popular with patients as well as visitors to NCCCR. It has a set of questions available both in English and Arabic. It asks patients to rate their visit to the hospital like the quality of service, how they were welcomed on arrival and how they found the care given by both doctors and nurses.

"The aim is to measure the satisfaction of the patients and provide the best international practices in healthcare," al-Naimi said.

"The responses to the questionnaire are monitored in real time. The officials concerned are informed about the important aspects of the responses on a daily basis and other details are communicated on a weekly basis."

Al-Naimi pointed out that the app, an iPad-based one, is available for all patients and visitors to complete. iPads loaded with the app can be found on stands in all the main departments of the NCCCR. Handheld iPads are also available in each department to provide easier access for patients.

WISH CEO Egbert Schillings recalled that the app was a big hit at the WISH summit. "I have worked for five years in London. I have never seen such a facility in any of the NHS hospitals. It is something great that a not-for-profit organisation such as HMC has given importance for patient experience. Many delegates from other countries at the WISH summit had remarked that their countries do not have such a system."
