Chad: 27 killed in 'terrorist attacks'


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Twenty-seven people, including four militants, were killed Monday morning in a series of attacks on security facilities in Chad's capital N'djamena, according to government officials.

Speaking to Chadian National Radio, Communication Minister Hassan Syla Bakary said the attacks had also left more than 100 people injured, many seriously.

"A crisis unit has been set up by the head of government to identify the perpetrators and the circumstances of the attacks," he said.

"Nothing will shake the tranquility of the Chadian people, who will never yield to terror," Bakary added, asserting that the Chadian government would continue its fight against Nigeria's Boko Haram militant group.

Earlier Monday, medical sources told Anadolu Agency that at least 28 people had been killed in a series of "terrorist attacks" on security facilities in N'djamena.

According to the same sources, 19 bodies € including those of 16 policemen € were taken to a morgue near the N'djamena police academy, which was rocked by two separate explosions.

Nine other bodies were brought to the morgue at the city's Central Hospital.

Medical sources from both hospitals said that "tens of people" had been injured.

A senior security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Anadolu Agency that the attacks had been carried out by "at least three suicide bombers belonging to Boko Haram".

Police have since cordoned off all the roads around the affected area.

Monday's attacks were the first of this magnitude to be seen in the Chadian capital.
