Israel bars visit of UN envoy ahead of Gaza war report release

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Ahead of expected release of a UN report on last Israeli war on Gaza Strip, Tel Aviv has blocked a planned visit to Israel by the UN Special Human Rights Rapporteur in Palestinian Territories Makarim Wibisono.

Israel did not permit the visit because it cooperates with all the international commissions and all UN rapporteurs, except when the mandate handed to them is anti-Israeli and the government of Israel has no option to make itself heard, the Israeli radio quoted the Foreign Ministry Spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon as saying Monday.

Wibisono was planned to visit Israel and the Palestinian territories last week, to before finalizing a report to be presented at the UN General Assembly in New York shortly.

On Sunday, the Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu hailed the outcome of his government's report on the war on Gaza which comes ahead of the release of a UN probe into alleged war crimes during that war.

The report is especially important as part of efforts to counter anti-Israel initiatives and delegitimization efforts, he said, adding that it also presents the true picture of Operation Protective Edge, which proves unequivocally that actions carried out by the Israeli forces were in accordance with international law.

He stressed that the state of Israel and its forces are committed to the rules of international law not because of this or that report or UN committee, but because Israel is a democracy and a moral country with values.
